Matthew 25

The Matthew 25 ministry is an active mission of First Methodist Church Washington, serving those in need in our community.  Our goals are:  No one in Washington will go hungry, basic needs will be met, all will hear the love of Jesus Christ, and we will identify community needs and partner with other churches and civic organizations. We served the first meal on July 12, 2014, feeding approximately 35 people. Over 600 meals were served the first year.  As the ministry has grown, other services are provided as the needs are identified.  On the second Saturday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we welcome guests to share a meal and enjoy a time of fellowship. Even if we are unable to be together in the Fellowship Hall, like during the pandemic, we serve take-out plates. In addition to meals, we provide lunch bags for Zion shelter, hygiene items, children’s books, magazines and devotionals and warm clothing during the winter months, devotion and prayer time led by local pastors, individual prayer upon request and musical entertainment.

How to be Involved

Join or provide a cook team, provide travel-sized toiletries, warm clothing, be a greeter, provide music, decorate and set up on Friday afternoon, donate food, donate monetary gifts (tax deductible) and, especially, pray for our ministry. Volunteers can be civic organizations, school groups, church youth groups, Scout troops, restaurants and individuals.
